Nature is the Classroom with our Outdoor Education Program

Chadwick School offers one of only 12 outdoor education programs in North America fully accredited by the Association for Experiential Education (AEE), a 19-year accreditation. Ours is a carefully calibrated K-12 program — one of the first in the country. Our program takes Chadwick students on outdoor expeditions, which become increasingly challenging, both physically and mentally as each year progresses.

These expeditions help foster character-building through age-appropriate experiences that stretch students’ physical and emotional capabilities. They include backpacking, hiking, rock-climbing, meal planning, and for Grades 11 and 12, days of monitored solitude. These experiences compel students to take initiative, make decisions, deal with uncertainty and be accountable for results. In the process, students discover a sense of self and learn to explore and respect the natural world.
